PROJECT 6: SENSE OF PLACES :NEIGHBOORHOOD AND COMMUNITY

This project is very great for me because it taught me to be an excellence in development. It has improve me how to be creative when we are need to visit the site.We have to do analysis to know the path of sun, the flow of wind, the facilities that should be add to make the community eel comfortable. From this poject I known that how to understanding the main physical and non-physical factors that should be consider in planning and designing a layout plan for neighbourhood area. This project is really tough for me because I  finish it for 2 days direct without sleep. But I really enjoy doing this project.

Project 4:PRESENTATION DRAWING

For this project we have learned about how to present our technical drawing  of chair from project 3(b)
We need to draw the Plans and Elevations rom fron, rear, left and right that are 2D.Since i have a basic this, I can make it easily for me.This also ask us to draw  3D ,the axonometric drawing. To me this project teach us how to know the parts of building. It also improve my understanding how to draw in scaling since this project should be in scale 1:20 and include human figure for 3D.

Project 3(b):Structural Model of Functional Space

The main topic for this project is application of design elements and principles .This project seem to like project 3(a) where we should design L-shaped chair. For this project we have to work with two other person who are Nor Mumtaz and Nor Hazwani who are my coursemates.Well, this is group work..Alhamdullilah we can manage and have are good team work to finish this project.Since we have to design an objet connections where it is a comfortable chair. This project have improve our ability in applying suitable elements and principles of design in producing a functional structural. We also have to face the challengesof designing a small structure that is a result of a connection with two object where involve of L-chair and also table.
It also improve our ability in skill in developing and communicate our ideas through conceptual scale model making. This project have improve our skill in designing after project3(a)...

                  (New or Recycled Materials)
Skills                                      : MODEL MAKING, WRITING (description)

INTRODUCTION

All objects that man creates are either shapes or forms, and the creation involves various elements and principles of design. A shape, be it geometrical or free-form, is a 2D area that is defined in some way by line, space, value, colour or a combination of these. Counterpart to shape, form is a 3D object that has dimension or volume. Shapes like triangles or squares can develop into forms such as cones and cubes with the addition of depth. On the other hand, space is the element that refers to the emptiness within or around the objects, and it can be either positive or negative. In this sense, the shapes and forms are called the positive space, or the ‘figure’, while the empty spaces around shapes and forms are called negative spaces, or the ‘ground’. In built environment, the objects created can be both stand-alone or connected, and functional or non-functional; while the space produced can be both habitable or unhabitable. A sculpture for instance, although is normally considered as unhabitable and non-functional object, but it is a signifant feature for interior and landscape design. In some extent, this non-functional object has inspired many outstanding forms of functional objects, like the ‘Pucuk Rebung’ sculpture for the Menara Telekom building.

OBJECTIVES (Project 3a)

§  To improve students’ ability in applying suitable elements and principles of design in producing a free-form object.
§  To improve students’ skills in developing and communicating the ideas through conceptual model making.

INTRODUCTION

Man through the ages have learned much from nature to live their life. The integration of various elements of nature has formed many magnificent structures that have long inspired them to build their own structures, and thus foster their civilization. The aerodynamic characteristics of bird’s wings have sparked the ideas to create the thing that can fly: ‘an airplane’, which is then further innovated by several modernist architects in designing various eco-friendly buildings that can maximize the breeze and at the same time minimize the wind load. So does other remarkable man-made structures that have been obviously inspired by nature, like the ‘palm oil tree- like’ of KLIA columns and shell-like roof of Sydney Opera House. This clearly shows that there are so many design elements in nature like lines, shapes, forms, colours, textures etc. that can be creatively ‘mimicked’ by man in building their own structures that can benefit all, not only mankind, but also mother nature that they have borrowed from their children.

OBJECTIVES

§  To enhance students’ understanding of  basic elements and principles of design through observation of existing natural and man-made structures.
§  To enhance students’ creativity in presenting their ideas selectively and graphically.
§  To nourish students’ skills in creative thinking, observation, sketching, rendering, colouring, writing description and composing graphical images.

INTRODUCTION

Men are the caliphs of the earth, created with the same purpose; to obey The Creator and to prosper the world (memakmurkan bumi). But, their tasks may differ slightly depending on their unique attitudes, interests, mindsets, talents and physicals traits (body shape, form, skin colours etc). So do the actors of the built environment i.e. architect, interior designer, urban & regional planner, building surveyor, building technologist, quantity surveyor, construction manager, contractor, developer etc. Although they are equipped with different expertise and bear different responsibilities, but they all share the same aim and move integratedly towards the same point: ‘a better built environment’. Thus, knowing about the self, particularly on our uniqueness, passion and strength is indeed vital in understanding the existence and importance of us here, which in turn not only benefit other actors in the built environment, but also the people at large.

OBJECTIVES

§  To stimulate students’ appreciation of beauty and aesthetics through an observation of themselves as the best of all creations (‘sebaik-baik kejadian’).
§  To encourage students to rediscover their true selves and be able to represent themselves graphically using basic design elements like lines, shapes, forms and colours.
§  To introduce students with basic sketching & drawing techniques, lettering, writing description and composing graphical images.
§  To introduce students with the importance and responsibilities of every actor in built environment

TASKS & REQUIREMENTS

Project 1a: Stewardship

§  Students need to sketch their own face (self-portrait) with a pencil (black & white)
§  The portrait should not be more than 100mm x 100mm size
§  Students also need to write some descriptions about themselves, by describing their:
i)                     Personal background
ii)                   How they see themselves in 5 years later
iii)                  As an architect / interior designer / urban & regional planner / building surveyor / building technologist / quantity surveyor / or construction manager, what can they contribute for the betterment of the built environment
§  The descriptions should be hand-written (pen ink) using ‘uppercase architectural lettering’.
§  Medium: 1 A3 size cartridge paper on board (refer standard template (portrait orientation) below).

Project 1b: Personal Logo

§  Students need to create a ‘PERSONAL LOGO’ (as their ‘personal branding’) that best reflects their personality and strengths.
§  The logo design should contain a maximum of 3 colours.
§  Students also need to clarify the design of the logo by describing the rationales for design elements used (such as line, shape, form, colour etc).
§  The descriptions should be hand-written using ‘uppercase architectural lettering’(pen ink) and the logo design should not be more than 200mm x 200mm size.
§  Medium: 1 A3 size cartridge paper on board (refer standard template (portrait orientation) below).
